we are in this together.
Portrait sessions include a few simple ‘look at the camera’ photos mixed with candids of you being a family. If you have little ones, this might include a few tickles and silly faces. I want to keep the session as casual as possible! I like to photograph as many different combinations and variations of groupings as you’d like! This might include all of you together, just the kiddies, just the parents, kids with each parent, individually.. anything goes!
location + timing.
I love nature as a backdrop – spending some time during sunset at the beach, trail or in the park is ideal! Some of my favourite spots to shoot are Acadia Beach/Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Spanish Banks and Iona Beach. But I am open to any suggestions you have.
Shooting in your home is a great idea too especially if you have some good window light that fills the room. This can also be good if weather is on the colder side. If it’s a nice day out, a spot outside like the backyard or garden area, where you spend most of your family time is great too!
Ideally, sunset provides us with the best lighting. Around 1 hour before the sun sets is my general rule for a shoot start time.
An outdoor shoot time between 12pm – 5pm can be challenging if the sun is out at full force – but choosing locations with shaded coverage, like forests or under trees can help remedy this!
However, if the day is mostly overcast, we can be flexible with timing as overcast provides great light at all times of day!
timing with littles.
I do understand families with infants need to work around nap times, bed times and other important times younger ones might be following.
So I am super flexible if there is a certain time that does or doesn’t work with your schedule.
There are always ways to make a location work – just let me know what times work best and I can help with finding the best areas to take photos in at the location you have chosen.
