The road to equal rights for queer people in Canada has been an upward battle over the past few decades.

It was only in 2005 that Canada officially recognized LGBTQ marriage.

With that in mind, it’s really special for me to see first hand, queer folx choosing the path of parenthood.

I personally only know a few LGBTQ parents in my own life, so being able to connect with a family like this, makes it even more real. I hold these moments close to my heart.

I recently had the chance to document Jason and Frank, sharing an evening at Spanish Banks of precious moments with their new son, Nik. These two connected with him through the foster care system and became his official dads just a few weeks ago.

It was super special to capture their first photographs as a family. I hope they can cherish these moments for a lifetime.
