Queer love: a surprise proposal turns into a beautiful engagement session

N & P are getting married this July, right around Pride in Vancouver. Rewind to last year. I had the honour of helping plan a surprise proposal that turned into one of the most tender, unforgettable moments.

We began in the forest, capturing portraits among the towering trees and soft light with nature quietly framing their connection. Then we made our way down to the ocean, where the proposal would unfold. At the edge of the water at Acadia Beach, I positioned them both facing the sea: N stood behind, P in front.

N asked P to turn around. Before kneeling to propose, she shared heartfelt words about why she loved her. N’s words were full of vulnerability and intention. It brought such depth and meaning to the moment, making the proposal feel beautifully authentic.

After slipping the ring onto P’s finger, we continued our session as the sun dipped low, bathing everything in golden light. It was one of those evenings that felt suspended in time
